Staircase railing
In this house, the staircase gets its light from an old stained-glass window, with its yellow arches, purple medallions and fine lead lines. It's what gives the staircase all its character.
So when the staircase needed a railing, the idea grew to create one in honour of its window, borrowing and adapting its pattern.
I redrew the stained-glass pattern to fit the slope of the stairs: a large triangle where arches, medallions and small diamonds repeat in regular lines, like the leading of the window. Modelled in 3D, the railing was then CNC cut from beech.
The work is still in progress: the railing is installed, but it still has to be varnished or painted. It already lets the light of the window through, and its pattern casts shadows on the steps throughout the day.
